AND TRY AGAIN.

Yesterday I went to the skating rink with my always lovely boyfriend Max. I haven’t been on skates in about two or three years. It was scary and at the same time exciting. One little boy in particular caught my eye. He was having the hardest time in the world staying up. Every five minutes or so he would fall right down, eventually a few people began to stop to try and help him up but he would tell them no. He would just get up all by himself, and try again. His dad was on the outside of the rink just watching him, not saying a word. He had this look that almost said, thats right son just keep on going. No matter how hard he fell or if he was hurt, this little boy kept getting up without a struggle. He wanted to learn how to skate, badly. I admired that so much because of how many times I have given up on things that I wanted just because it hasnt worked out the first few times. I should keep trying, no matter what.

On another note, also having to do with this same little boy and also another one is that being raised as a strong person as opposed to “youre a kid and you can easily get hurt” is an interesting thought. The little boy that kept pushing through his pains, was obviously raised to think “Its alright just a little fall, im strong, i can do this”. Now there was another young boy, with his mom and his sister with him. He was also having a rough time learning to skate but in this case his mom and sister were right there by his side trying to help him. They would not let him fall, even if he tried to throw himself to the ground. Do you know how upset he looked? Or how long he decided to stay out on the rink? Not even half an hour. He gave up because whether his family realizes or not they were sending him a subconscious message of being weak and fragile and “you cant do it, thats why im helping you”. 

Next time you see somebody struggle, be encouraging of course, but let them struggle. Its life. Its real. We are all strong.
